Position DescriptionUHC Global Actuarial Consultant is the subject matter expert and trusted advisor for understanding and interpreting the key drivers and risk of US and international accident/health/other risks as they emerge and impact UHC Global businesses. This individual will be involved in the development of pricing models, methodologies, risk management, and assumptions. The UHC Global Actuarial Consultant will identify, measure and mitigate risks; develop rates, prepare cost estimates, and conduct research and evaluate studies on pricing, frequency and severity across the UHCG businesses, both on US and non-US insurance licenses. If you are located within a commutable distance to the CT or MN offices, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities Critically review, adapt, and modify USA to non-USA insurance environment n Prepare actuarial justification and certification for rate filings / regulatory approvals
n Update/ reset costs and assumptions for rating models n Interact with Dental, Vision, Life and Disability actuarial teams to update current models n Develop analytics for both U.S. and International claims costs n Research multiple US statutes/regulations, interpret and recommend appropriate adjustments to comply with regulations as they impact UHCG n Develop/apply pricing methods and concepts for insurance and service fee products n Research, develop and validate methodologies to identify bases costs for non-healthcare businesses n Competitive analysis (US and non-US licenses) n Retention modeling and validation n Gather information and create product pricing platforms to store and enable access to relevant data across for each UHCG business n Extract and aggregate applicable data for projects (pricing, reserving, rate setting, trend analysis, profitability) n Train local actuarial and UW teams n Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics,
Finance, Actuarial Science or related field n Actuarial designation (ASA or FSA) n 5 years of progressively responsible experience in actuarial and/or financial data analysis required n At least an intermediate level of proficiency in Excel n Able to work in various global time zones n Commutable distance to Minnesota or Connecticut offices n Preferred Qualifications Has worked in a start-up environment n Experience with pre-ACA rating and regulations in multiple states n Demonstrated ability in successfully building relationships and working with resources/tools across multiple business functions, within affiliated companies n Proficiency in a second language n Experience with SAS and/or SQL n Professional experience with MS Access n Exposure to multiple facets of various insurance products (life, other A&H lines, P&C): product design, pricing, risk management (underwriting and reinsurance), reporting/reserving n Experience in translating
business-driven data needs to technical data/programming and non-actuarial areas n Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. n Strong communication skills, both oral and written to a non-actuarial audience.
