Associate Medical Director / Day / 28 Hours / BWPO - Medical Management - (3097278)

General Summary/Overview:
The Associate Medical Director is an integral part of the BWPO Medical Management Team. Working with the BWPO Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and as an active member of the Medical Management Leadership Team, comprised of the BWPO Chief Medical Officer, CMIO, Associate/Assistant Medical Director peers, and Administrative Directors, the Associate Medical Director actively participates in the advancement of clinical care redesign and population health management strategy. S/he provides relevant clinical context, active strategic thanking, and day-to-day management support to other Medical Management Team staff members to enable the team to drive quality, efficiency, and strategy. Core leadership competencies include teamwork, executing to drive results, communicating effectively, coaching and mentoring, thinking strategically, networking and influencing, and leadership.
Under the direction of the BWPO CMIO, the Associate Medical Director BWPO leads the development of the strategy and the management of all aspects of programs/projects within his/her portfolio. These responsibilities include the design of the strategy in alignment with broader PO, hospital and/or Partners strategy; oversight of the project execution to ensure goals, timelines, and budgets are met; management of the individual team members and overall team; and effective communication of the status of this work to the BWPO Chief Medical Officer, full Medical Management team and other key stakeholders.
S/he will have the ability and expectation to directly and indirectly manage within a matrixed organization staff, either with team members who have a direct HR reporting relationship and/or may work directly on his/her initiatives, but have a separate direct HR reporting relationship. Direct management responsibilities include: completing the annual performance review, reviewing the annual Competency Model development plan, and managing requests for time off and other administrative issues related to managing an employee. Indirect management responsibilities include contributing to the annual performance review, offering real-time coaching and feedback, and coordination with a team members' direct leader.
Specific Programs:
1. EHR Optimization and Usability: provides strategic planning, operational oversight, and clinical expertise to implement strategies that improve the effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and safety of care delivery through the effective use of technology.
+ Work closely with BH IS and PHS PeC leadership to develop and deploy programs designed to maximize the effective use of the electronic health record (EHR) by physicians and practice staff, including 1:1 physician optimization support program; in-person and virtual scribe implementation; and e-prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS).
+ Identify high-priority ambulatory clinical workflow challenges and evaluate/implement IT solutions for these challenges (e.g. medication renewals; importing of outside clinical data; medication and problem list reconciliation).
+ Oversee evaluation and prioritization of Epic ambulatory enhancement requests from BWPO providers and practices. Collaborate with PHS PeC to ensure that Epic enhancements meet needs of BWPO providers.
+ Collaborate with other technology-based efforts as they arise, represents and advocates for the BWPO and BWH in dealings with outside entities, including payers, Partners PHM, and Partners senior leadership.
2. Clinical Lead for CMS Quality Payment Program: provides strategic planning, operational oversight and clinical expertise to implement programs supporting Advanced Payment Model (APM) framework and MIPS reporting MACRA.
3. Responsible for IPF metric success:
+ BWPO ownership for relevant IPF measures - Advise BWPO and BWH leadership on overall strategy, measure development and performance. Ensure collaboration between key stakeholders and advise on implementation, process, measurement efforts, and outcome(s)
4. Medical Management Team Leadership:
+ Weekly meetings with other members of Medical Management Leadership Team; Monthly meetings with full Medical Management Team
+ Contribute to strategic development and prioritization of overall Team Priorities
+ Responsible for coordination and collaboration with other members of Medical Management Leadership Team to ensure staffing is adequate
+ Advance team development work around values and behaviors
Qualifications
Skill and Abilities Required:
* Requires skills and experience facilitating clinical teams and understanding group dynamics.
* Experience engaging and communicating with physicians and other clinicians in process improvement and strategic projects.
* Excellent verbal and written skills, to communicate effectively with a wide range of departments and individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
* Experience using a variety of improvement and redesign tools and techniques such as process mapping, root cause analysis, design and prototyping, rapid cycle testing and change management.
* Extensive experience working with administrative healthcare and clinical data preferred.
* Skill in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Qualifications:
* MD with board certification with at least 5 years of practice experience.
* Extensive management experience in an academic medical center or additional management degree (e.g., MBA, MPH) preferred.
* Track record in IT project implementation, process redesign, quality improvement, and/or project management work.
* Effective facilitation skills within large dynamic groups required; with specific preference for experience facilitating physicians and clinical teams in performance improvement and/or behavior change
* Demonstrated expertise in managing and communicating among working relationships in matrix structure
