**Description:** **BASIC FUNCTION:**


Under the direction and supervision of a physician, performs arteriograms, venograms, DSA and related interventional procedures using highly complex imaging equipment. Conducts general radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures as a secondary assignment. Makes professional, technical assessment of image quality and submits for medical interpretation only those completed studies which meet or exceed established standards.





**NATURE AND SCOPE:**


This position interacts with the Imaging Sciences department, patients and families, physicians, and medical records.





**PRINCIPAL** **ACCOUNTABILITIES:**


Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.





Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.





Conducts a variety of general radiographic, fluoroscopic and interventional procedures on pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.





Communicates relevant medical information to physicians and other staff through required documentation on specified medical record forms.





Follows national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self and non-radiology persons.





Practices appropriate Universal Precaution techniques.





Responsible for the accuracy of all identification information on completed images prior to interpretation.





Enters data into computer systems as may be required for examinations, communications, orders, billing and statistical documentation.





Uses established standard exposure techniques, either manual or automatic to tailor total radiation doses following ALARA guidelines.





Accurately positions patients to demonstrate requested anatomy according to established standards of quality.





Maintains an individual repeat rate of 5% or less.





Consistently and properly identifies completed images with correct name, lead technical markers and other required data, i.e., portable stickers, date stickers.





Communicates equipment malfunctions by communicating with supervisor.





Records relevant medical information in patient chart and/or QA copy of request. Signs all QA slips and records the time exam is completed and the number and size of films used (including repeats) before submitting same to physician for reading.





Operates hospital computer system for information inquiry, order entry and change entry. Ensures accuracy of all charges for exams performed. Alters charge slip, if necessary, with correct exam and charge code.





Orients, trains and instructs new staff, students and other personnel as required on x-ray exams, radiation protection and general department procedures.





Maintains inventory and cleanliness of procedure rooms as needed.





Explains procedures to patients prior to beginning exam.





Sets up procedure room prior to calling radiologist for any physician supervised procedure.





Makes quality assessment of all radiographs submitted for reading. Maintains professional responsibility to submit images which meet standards of quality as established by the department chairman.





Develops own films with daylight or conventional processing systems.





When necessary, transports patients to and from the department via wheelchair, stretcher or bed.





Verifies patient and correct radiological procedure by checking chart and patient's wristband information.





Prior to imaging neonates, infants, and toddlers, the tech explains the procedure to the parent or care giver and provides a protective environments.





Prior to imaging preschool children the tech uses words and phrases in their explanation that are familiar to the child, and provides a protective environment.





Prior to imaging school age children the tech finds out what the child believes will happen, clarifies any misconceptions, also provides a protective environment.





Tech allows the adolescent patient as much choice and control as possible during imaging, also provides a protective environment.





Treats all geriatric patients with dignity.





**CORE COMPETENCIES:**


National registration in one modality is necessary.





Florida State Certification for Radiography, Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine is necessary.





Long periods of standing and walking are required.





BCLS Certification required from American Heart or American Red Cross.





**MINIMUM** **REQUIREMENTS:**







Graduate of AMA or AOA approved school of Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or Ultrasound.




















At least two (2) years of Imaging experience in radiography, ultrasound or nuclear medicine is necessary.











At least one (1) year of experience in processor monitoring and quality control is necessary.
