This position is currently term-limited but there is the potential for the position to become permanent pending federal approval of the drug importation program.

Pursuant to Senate Bill 19-005, the Department has been tasked with administering a program
for the importation and distribution of prescription drugs from Canada. The Drug Importation
Unit oversees this groundbreaking program for bringing more affordable prescription drugs to
Colorado consumers. The unit is situated within the Medicaid Pharmacy Office.
The Medicaid Pharmacy Office develops and implements prescription drug policies that achieve the Department's objectives to control prescription drug costs while improving the health of Medicaid and CHP+ members; manages the operations associated with the Medicaid prescription drug benefit; drives effective prescription drug affordability policy for the entire State; where appropriate, operationalize policies associated with the State's prescription drug affordability objectives; and applies the state pharmacy rules in a fair and reasonable manner to ensure that providers can continue to provide high-quality services and Medicaid members can continue to have adequate access to pharmaceutical care.
Description of Job
This position:
+ oversees the implementation and operations of a program for importing drugs from Canada
+ manages the drug supply chain and distribution for imported drugs
+ supervises the Drug Importation Unit staff (3 professionals)
+ ensures the program is administered in compliance with federal and state requirements
+ develops program objectives and ensures they are met
+ manages program expenditures to the appropriated funds
+ provides program expertise to internal and external stakeholders
+ assists with Pharmacy Office ad hoc projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in health care administration, business administration, public administration or other closely related field;
Five years of professional experience specific to public health policy, the delivery of health care benefits, and/or the administration of a health care-related program.
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with the administration of a health care program
+ Experience with health care policy analysis and development
+ Experience with managing professional staff
+ Experience with project management
