Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (Zuckerman Institute) supports interdisciplinary neuroscience research and discovery by scientists and scholars across the university and promises to be the most comprehensive institute for brain science. Located in a state-of-the-art facility, world class researchers are brought together to transform our understanding of the brain and mind.
The laboratory of Dr. Richard Axel at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute has an open position for a highly motivated Research Staff Assistant to work in a cutting-edge neuroscience laboratory.
Working alongside a postdoctoral fellow and reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the laboratory is beginning a new research avenue, investigating how cuttlefish (a relative of the octopus) camouflage to the environment. Cuttlefish can change their skin patterns and texture in milliseconds to actively mimic their surroundings. Through the development of molecular tools, conducting behavioral experiments and performing advanced neural imaging, the Axel lab is aiming to understand how this behavior is controlled by the brain. We seek a highly motivated, skilled, and dynamic individual who is enthusiastic about a career in science. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
* Performs new and routine laboratory and investigative procedures, such as microinjection, culturing, molecular cloning and genotyping;
* Builds behavioral experiments;
* Plans and conducts behavioral experiments;
* Participation in laboratory meetings and planning sessions;
* Reads applicable literature as related to the research within the lab;
* Performs data collection and basic behavioral and imaging data analysis;
* Assists with administrative and documentation tasks relates to experiments. Minimum Qualifications for Grade
