We are an incredibly successful new school in the Bronx looking for a Special Education Coordinator with a background in teaching Special Education and navigating the IEP administrative process. We have an incredible Intervention faculty, an innovative school design and exceptional early results. ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of the Special Education Coordinator must:Oversee/manage a caseload of special education students and the implementation of their IEP; knowledge of inclusive, self-contained and pull-out settings required.Have strong knowledge of, and familiarity with SESIS; they will be responsible for transferring information from IEP teacher reports and anecdotes into SESIS (PLOP, annual, transitional and post secondary goals).Ensure appropriate delivery of both special education academic programming and related services as stipulated on IEP.Ensure compliance with all City, State and Federal special education law; ensure compliance with CSE regulatory expectations relative to students with IEPs, as well as students referred to special education. Effectively communicate the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEPs, and re-evaluations as well as parental rights granted by IDEA to families.Effectively build relationships with students receiving special education services.Coordinate with CSE to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner (according to state, local, and school policies and procedures) prior to meetings. Connect with Director of Intervention and CSE team to ensure all team members (including parents) are prepared for the content of the meeting. Ensure that all IEP teacher reports and anecdotes are completed to meet CSE regulatory expectations; responsible for communicating with all designated staff to ensure that IEP reports are completed with precision and attention to detail.Facilitate annual review IEP meetings using a strengths based and family centered approach. Maintain student filing system (paper and electronic) according to school and CSE standards. Provide support/assistance to teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of case management; use of computer systems for the special education process, writing of student goals, correspondence pertaining to annual reviews and parent communication is required.Who We’re Looking ForWe believe students succeed when adults build a close, collaborative community and strive relentlessly for excellence. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with specific learning disabilities, autism, developmental delay, and behavior disorders. Extensive background knowledge of IEPs. Demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families and the CSE. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, and families. Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population. Have a track record of being a team player and community minded. Be committed to their own professional development and learning; a self-starter who takes initiative. Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Have a passion for urban public schools. Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.
