**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**
The Department of Music, Multimedia, Theatre, and Dance at Lehman College, City University of New York, is conducting a search for a dynamic faculty member with expertise in Music Education to begin Fall 2020. The appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. Candidates must have background of scholarship and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music and a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Music. The MAT degree is for those who will go on to teach music in K-12 schools throughout the New York Metropolitan area. We seek well-rounded, experienced candidates who can teach a wide variety of academic, methods, and performance-oriented courses.
Responsibilities will include teaching methods courses, undergraduate and graduate music courses, and developing an innovative, student-responsive curriculum. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly and creative activity, effectiveness in classroom teaching, administrative experience, and a commitment to service to the college.
Lehman College is a senior college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system that prides itself on its commitment to public urban higher education. Professorial ranks at Lehman College teach 18 hours (6 courses) per year. Teaching is reduced for tenure-track professorial faculty over the first five years for scholarly development. The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York, and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. The teaching load is 18 hours per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship, and creative works. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development, and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. **QUALIFICATIONS**
Candidates must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) by Fall 2020, with an emphasis on music education. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to teach a broad range of subjects, such as methods courses for K-12 teachers, secondary instruments, graduate analysis, conducting, and courses combining music technology and pedagogy, as well as experience in the training and supervision of pre-service teachers.
Candidates should have a background of scholarship and teaching, as well as the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Candidates should engage actively in professional organizations, and should have a strong commitment to students. We are interested in candidates with experience building and administering programs.
**COMPENSATION**
Salaries are commensurate with eduation and experience.
