REPORTS TO:
Director of Communications and Marketing
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing will work with the Director and the Communications Team to advance and improve **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.' internal and external information, media relations, and marketing strategy. Responsibilities include strategic communications design and execution. This position will support the development and implementation of a multi-year plan that is focused on promoting the district and its schools to a diverse set of stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In partnership with team, develop and drive strategic communications plan- utilizing both traditional and new media - to help the organization meet strategic goals of the District Model for Excellence
Work with team in setting external media strategic plan and agenda
Utilize all available district and school-based multimedia resources/channels (email, web, video, radio, TV, print, and social media) to share news and maintain lines of communication with district constituents, the press, and other agencies on behalf of the district
Coordinate the preparation of multilingual news releases about programs, projects, activities, and accomplishments of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.' students and staff
Work collaboratively with colleagues, schools, and departments in support of district's strategic communications needs
Work with the Director, administration, and schools on crisis and emergency communications
Develop and coordinate promotional marketing materials and activities
Serve as a deputy spokesperson for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with various news media and other public groups
Notify news media of various district activities, events, and services by issuing news releases, feature stories, and public service announcements
Respond to media inquiries; assist members of the media in promoting district programs and special events; consult with appropriate staff to coordinate and supervise the dissemination of information through the media
Maintain and update media contacts and distribution lists
Write, edit, and proofread a variety of messages (including statements, talking points, remarks, media advisories, press releases, brochures, and PowerPoint presentations) for distribution to the media, families, students, staff, and partners
Maintain communications software applications that facilitate internal communications, customer service, and operational effectiveness.
Prepare and present reports on variety of public information issues
Perform other related activities as delegated
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public administration, and related fields or relevant experience
Minimum of six (6) years' experience in communications including experience working within local or state agencies, preferably educational organizations; successful candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of marketing strategy, brand management, public relations, event planning, digital marketing, and print materials
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Highly developed strategic thinking and execution skills for the management of complex projects
Independent, entrepreneurial, and excellent problem solver
Biliterate capability in Spanish, preferred
Highly flexible and adaptive work style with the ability to work irregular hours and prioritize among competing demands
Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative, and make sound decisions under pressure
Computer proficiency with Microsoft office, Google, and other standard applications
Experience/knowledge in social media and digital communications
Experience/knowledge with graphic design applications, preferred
Ability to deal effectively, fairly, and courteously with all people in a variety of environments
Natural ability to collaborate and build relationships with multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally
Demonstrated commitment to urban public education and the District Model for Excellence

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month work year; non-bargaining salary commensurate with education and experience
EVALUATION:
Probationary period of six (6) months followed by annual evaluation
