I: Job Summary

The National Account Director reports to the Sr. Director, Market Access. This field-based role is responsible for all facets of account management and contract negotiations for assigned commercial and government payers to attain key objectives for Narcan Nasal Spray. The position will be responsible for implementing short- and long-term business initiatives to build and maintain appropriate coverage and utilization of Narcan Nasal Spray within national and regional payers and PBMs, and custom clients of national PBMs. The National Account Director will work closely with Emergent market access colleagues on business planning, strategy and pull through.

II: Responsibilities
  • Assess and monitor product positioning within each targeted payer. When appropriate, take action to increase or maintain open access to Narcan Nasal Spray.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate account-specific payer relationship management within assigned accounts
  • Develop, implement and successfully execute account-specific business plans and negotiation strategy.
  • Focus on a vertical integration plan within all assigned accounts, which includes payer Medical/Pharmacy and other medical management team members. In addition, efforts should include working with regional affiliates in executing pull-through strategies from national payers/PBMs.
  • Effectively implement and manage programs as directed by Market Access leadership, including providing input to Marketing to assist in the development of payer marketing programs and tools.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Market Access team, field team partners (Director, Community Solutions and Director, State Public Affairs), retail, trade and internal corporate partners to ensure consistent exchange of important payer information.
  • Reporting of progress in assigned accounts through business plan updates to management on a regular basis.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on market access trends and competitive landscape.
  • Work harmoniously with Commercial teams to assure adherence to all compliance guidelines.
  • Represent Emergent at industry associations or conferences as needed.
  • Manage expenses within assigned budgetary allocations to ensure operational margin goals are achieved.

III: Education, Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 8+ years of "progressive" industry/relevant professional experience; including strong knowledge of market access principles and managed care organizational structures.
  • Market access experience with national and regional commercial and government payers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payer decision-making processes for coverage, and patient access to existing and new products.
  • Ability to identify and build relationships with key decision-makers within assigned accounts.
  • Ability to skillfully negotiate in tough situations with both internal and external customers with examples of results.
  • Must work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Exceptional communication skills that include verbal, written and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, adhere to specific timelines, deliver on administrative responsibilities, and execute business planning and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness operating in a field-based position at multiple levels.
  • Proven project management skills (leading without authority), with the ability to handle multiple tasks with multiple partners.
  • Ability to accommodate 50 -70% travel depending on home-base. This is a virtual position.
