To assist with the supervision, training and coordination of all grounds maintenance on assigned properties, while also performing the actual tasks in a proper, efficient and safe manner. Assist with the grounds maintenance planning and labor assignments. Communicate and exemplify cooperation with all management personnel.
This position participates in the post-offer employment testing program.
Direct all assigned personnel with respect to daily tasks, and make minor modifications as necessary.
Tasks include, but are not limited to, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mulching and shoveling.
Resolve any personnel problems as they occur and communicate concerns to Foreman for any conflict that cannot be resolved successfully.
Check and initial time cards of all assigned personnel to insure accuracy of date; correct any errors.
See that all material requisition forms and shipping tickets are filled out accurately and turned in at the end of each day.
Maintain and secure all assigned tools, materials, vehicles, and equipment.
Comply with all facets of the HE&R Employee Handbook.
Comply with all facets of HERSHEY Nursery s Quality Assurance Opening Standards, and insure that all assigned personnel are in compliance with same.
Positively influence employee morale and exemplify an attitude of cooperation.
Assist the Foreman in monitoring production hours and recommend any changes required to stay within budget.
Report to Foreman, as soon as possible, any equipment, manpower, specialized material and any other similar needs required to maintain proper efficiency.
Train assigned personnel as necessary in proper horticultural practices to insure job quality and efficiency.
Assist in bidding process and job estimating.
Identify common plants, pests and weeds to insure that the grounds are maintained properly. Recognize plant problems and communicate to Foreman if unsure of problem.
Instruct and assist in maintaining safety on the job; report any hazards to Foreman.
Immediately report any employee or customer injury to Administrative Assistant.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
Must have a valid Driver s License.
Must be willing to obtain a medical card.
Must be able to drive standard transmission vehicles, operate tractors and use side mirrors to drive a one ton truck.
Must be able to train, operate efficiently and pass equipment test on (power blower, mini tiller, string trimmer, tractor, skid loader, mulch mover, chain saw and large/specialty mowing equipment).
Must have an Associates degree in horticulturally related field and two or more years active experience in the supervision of two or more employees (in the horticultural field). Can subsitute three years of experience in the supervision of two or more employees in the horticultural field in place of the Associates degree.
Daily work shift may change due to work requirements (i.e. rain, freezing weather, etc.)
Willing to be trained in any category of grounds maintenance in which he/she may need instruction, including equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
Knowledge, identification, maintenance and safe use of hand and power equipment involved in grounds maintenance and snow removal.
Knowledge of plants, pests and weeds common to job sites.
Knowledge of sound horticultural practices, planting, pruning, fertilizing, watering and general maintenance.
Ability to get along with others in the workplace and reflect a high standard of excellence toward customers and employees in appearance and attitude.
Must be able to complete multiple tasks as assigned.
Numerical ability to assist in job estimates.
Ability to organize work and delegate responsibilities.
Must be able to demonstrate independent decision making ability and complete routine tasks unsupervised.

This is a union position and the work schedule will be based on union seniority. Candidates must be able to meet scheduled requirements, which will most likely require evening and weekend hours.
