Summary: Supervise Packaging engineers in the process to develop the structural design of the packaging materials from the point of project in initiation to production line runs at Hershey?s manufacturing facility or at key co-manufacturing/co-packing. Assign projects, balance workload, maintain systems, and monitor timing and quality issues to provide a high level of service to customers Responsibilities As a recognized technical expert, evaluate and manage a select group of critical projects through planning, organizing coordinating projects to ensure alignment to strategy, while ensuring deadlines are developed and met. This would also include developing/maintaining packaging specifications and associated system work Supervise and assign packaging development resources to projects, suppliers, Partnership Teams, and task teams. Conduct Performance Management reviews for assigned engineering resources Work closely with the R&D, Marketing & Pack type teams to identify packaging requirements, translate to advantaged specifications, and collaborate with Packaging Procurement to recommend & qualify advantaged suppliers Oversee resources to spearhead Innovation relevant to all Hershey categories. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the developments and trends in packaging (material and equipment) for possible application with present and future products. This is done through external reviewing trade journals, participating in professional societies; attending trade shows and seminars; and consulting suppliers and visiting their facilities. Work with buyers and other team member to implement and apply to Hershey quality processes Develop in-depth knowledge of our strategic Pack types, and work across key stake-holder groups (Packaging Development, Commercial, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Co-man, Co-pack) to identify simplification, standardization and efficiency opportunities and inform future packaging strategies Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities: Excellent knowledge of manufacturing, materials & equipment. Strategic thinking, and strong ability to influence. Excellent knowledge of global packaging industry. Ability to manage professional engineering and expert resources. Ability to work under pressure and deadlines. Ability to analyze technical info. and translate to business relevant solutions/opportunities. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form with employees, as well as internal and external customers. Excellent engineering skills. Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Strong organizational, problem-solving and leadership skills. Strong negotiating skills. Travel both domestic and international up to 20% of the time. Team facilitation skills and experience. Fluent English Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education: B.S. in Engineering (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical preferred) Experience: 10 years? experience as a Packaging Engineer Demonstrated leadership in managing technical experts 5-years? experience in Engineering with direct responsibility for packaging systems or packaging equipment design & development
