Job Summary:

The Sensory Research Scientist will work independently (minimal supervision) and as part of a team to apply knowledge of food systems, the human senses, and statistical models to describe and quantify the sensory differences between food products and ingredients.

The scientist will use his/her knowledge of consumer and analytical sensory methods to lead research for innovation and advanced food research initiatives (technology development and validation), as well as participate in the development and implementation of sensory and consumer capabilities.

The individual will interact extensively with Product Development, Food Science, Marketing, Marketing Research, Quality and Regulatory Compliance, Operations Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations personnel. This role's primary focus is on consumer testing, but the scientist will also apply analytical sensory methods as needed to complement the testing required to meet project objectives.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Planning, execution, analysis, and interpretation of sensory/consumer tests, including working with external vendors; communication of results both verbally and in report/presentation format.
  • Participating in recurring project meetings and working with cross-functional team members to define project objectives, identify appropriate type of sensory support needed, and designing test protocols (includes consumer, discrimination, and descriptive testing).
  • Recurring Sensory team meetings to gain and maintain alignment on methods and best practices; administrative tasks and meetings.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Chemistry or Food Science required
  • 2 - 5 years of applicable work experience in Sensory field
  • Minimum 2 years of applicable work experience using consumer testing to inform product improvements and new product development.

Prefer:

  • Advanced degrees (M.S. or PhD)
  • Completed course work in Sensory, Statistics, Market Research or Business
  • Completion of certificate programs (i.e. UCDavis Sensory Certification, University of Georgia Market Research Certification )
