Position#Summary Pharmacy technicians, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, are responsible for providing technical support for the Department of Pharmaceutical Services. They are responsible for labeling, preparing, dispensing, and distributing of pharmaceutical products for all patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. An Advanced Pharmacy Technician has additional responsibilities to promote professional development of the staff and participate in performance improvement activities to advance the department as well as other duties defined below. #Primary Position Responsibilities Prepares all medications doses in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist. Prepares all parenteral products in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist. Delivers and distributes medications. Provides inventory and clerical support. Manages the Automated Dispensing Cabinet system. Promotes professional development. Participates in performance improvement and advancement of pharmacy department operations. #Work Contact Group (Internal/External) HMC employees, visitors, students, vendors #Reporting Relationships Reports to (position): Pharmacists; Assistant Director of Pharmaceutical Services; Director of Pharmaceutical Services Supervises (position(s): Technicians; Students; New staff in training #Qualifications Minimum Education: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred: ASHP/ACPE Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program; Specialized IV Training; Associates Degree or higher Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation): Required: Two years hospital pharmacy experience# Preferred: 5 years hospital License, Registry or Certification: Required: New Jersey Pharmacy Technician License, Certified Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) Preferred: None Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Required: Mathematical proficiency; Dexterity; Successful completion of written and hands on competencies; Technical expertise (site level) for Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) (e.g. PYXIS# or Omnicell#); Competence in required computer programs (clinical system, ADC, packaging, parenteral documentation), MS Office proficient Preferred: Teaching and presentation skills, understanding of Lean Six Sigma
