Position#Summary: Responsible for monitoring all aspects of the services performed in the Sterile Processing Department. Plans, organizes, coordinates, conducts, and evaluates work performance. Ensures that the Sterile Processing Department meets or exceeds all of the required standards of TJC, OSHA, ADA, HHS, NFPA, EPA, HCFA, etc. Researches and evaluates medical equipment and Instrumentation for purchase. Provides a safe, clean, healthy environment. # Primary Position Responsibilities: Responsible for receiving, collecting, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, storage, issuing and distribution of all medical instrumentation and equipment to the OR and hospital owned medical offices. Evaluates and monitors all workflow practices. Keep open dialog between hospital, doctor offices, and vendors. Ensures compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, etc. Maintains appropriate records, reports, statistics and instrument inventory. Coordinates the evaluation process of new products for cost effective efficiency. Negotiate service contracts. Ensures that all documentation is being performed accurately and completely within the Sterile Processing Department. Establishes appropriate quality-control checks and quality-control programs within the Sterile Processing Department. Ensures that the Sterile Processing Department promotes, participates, and complies with all established programs (Infection Control, Safety, Risk Management, Disaster, Security, Quality Assurance, Leadership, Performance Improvement, etc.). Develops an operating budget annually and a long-term capital expenditure plan. # Work Contact Group: Regular and frequent contact with physicians, vendor agencies, and hospital employees in providing service and information resolving issues and obtaining agreement. Reporting Relationship - Reports to Director Materials Management Supervises: Sterile Processing Supervisor # Trainer, Sterile Processing Senior Technicians,# Sterile Processing Technicians and Sterile Processing Students. # Qualifications: Minimum Education - Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate and/or Advanced Specialized or Technical Training in Sterile Processing Preferred: Associate#s Degree Minimum Years of Experience - Required: Minimum 5 years Sterile Processing or Operating Room experience. 3-5 years experience with progressive responsibility in Surgery or a SPD Department. Preferred: Extensive patient care knowledge (LPN/RN). License, Registry or Certification - Required: Certification from a nationally recognized certificate program in sterile processing management. Preferred: None Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities - Required: Ability to troubleshoot various issues as they relate to patient Sterile Processing.
