As a **Senior Foreign National Underwriter** , you have the responsibility of underwriting individual life insurance applications up to $5,000,000 up to age 85on a Dedicated Foreign National underwritingteam. In the underwriting capacity you have the responsibility to evaluate risk to determine individual's insurability adhering to medical & financial underwriting guidelines. This positionis exclusivelyfocused on Foreign National case work.
Fluencyin Spanish and/or Chinese required. (Both Desired)
+ Evaluates and handles all underwriting aspects of formal & informal life insurance applications
+ Underwrites cases with a graduated amount limit up to $2,000,000 to age 70 with less than 5 years underwriting experience and up to $5,000,000 to age 85 with 5 years or more of underwriting experience
+ Identifies trends and issues and offers the best underwriting solutions
+ Provides second signature review
+ Works on assigned projects pertaining to underwriting and enterprise initiatives
+ Understanding of sales themes and concepts of varying levels of complexity
+ Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices and procedures, and has the ability to influence and champion changes to improve processes while maintaining mortality expectations
+ Responsible for technical underwriting knowledge of the Swiss Re underwriting manual
+ Interprets documents such as policies, proposals, claims and financial reports
+ Interacts with customers to enhance relationships
+ Demonstrates the ability to adapt and customize content and communication style to fit a variety of specific external and internal target audiences such as: agents, brokers, distribution partners, and all levels of employees
+ Demonstrates dependability, flexibility and sound judgment by adhering to schedules and meeting all productivity, quality and performance standards as well as taking ownership for your actions
+ Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background.
+ Collaborates effectively with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks.
+ Represents the company by responding to questions during agency visits and developing relationships with agents and partners
+ Provides training to less experienced team members on underwriting procedures and guidelines
+ Enhances departmental outcomes by sharing knowledge with team members and providing advice on more complex underwriting determinations.
+ Communicates effectively with customers to facilitate placement of business
+ Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
+ Industry Exams - ALU 101, 201, 202, & LOMA encouraged
+ 3 - 6+ years of experience in Underwriting Individual Life Insurance
+ 3+ year of experience underwriting Foreign National cases
+ Fluency in Spanish and/or Chinese (Both Desired)
+ Demonstrated Excellence in: Problem Solving / Analysis; Comprehension of Complex Information; Influencing Others; Risk Assessment; Demonstrated decision making using sound judgment; Negotiation Skills; Managing Conflict
+ Developed Skills in: analyzing and interpreting complex financial documents including profit/loss statements, income statements, and balance sheets
+ Developed Skills in: Estate Growth Calculations and Life Expectancy Calculations
+ Strong Written and Verbal Communication skills
+ Intermediate in: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
+ A demonstrated track record of working with minimal supervision, being a self-starter and working with others in a team environment
