Prep pathology glass slides for digital scanning. Log incoming glass slides which arrive to the Digital Scanning Area into the department's laboratory information system; assist in the maintenance of quality control for glass slides submitted for digital scanning to ensure good image quality, and assists in the documentation of quality control issues and scans completed.
* Enters patient data and specimen data information into the laboratory information system to assign the specimen to the correct patient. * Ensures appropriate information (i.e. part type, specimen, outside accession number, number of slides submitted, outside procedure date) is captured on the slide. * Scans the barcode to confirm it works and visible for scanning. * Relabels slides as needed confirming the correct label information is captured. * Places label with accession number on the slide, ensuring label information is visible and accurate and placed where appropriate to ensure the scanner camera can read and scan the label information. * Identifies and document QA deficiencies, if any. Troubleshoots as needed and as per the digital scanning standard operating procedures. * Rechecks entries for correctness of slide label information and placement of label before proceeding to the next patient's slide. * Will only handle one slide at a time when relabeling and discards unused labels in the confidential bins immediately to avoid patient identification errors. * Submits prepped slides to the digital imaging technicians, histology technicians or fellows, for processing. * Places slides in the specified holding areas for loading onto the scanner and/or pick up/delivery. * Notifies lead, covering lead, supervisor, and/or manager of immediate issues. * Performs appropriate quality controls activities to assure accuracy of data on glass slide labels, quality digital images, and patient safety. * Completes quality control activities in a timely manner and as per the department's turn around expectations for the digital scanning workflows. * Adheres to the Center and department policies in relation to the release of any patient information. * Ensures that the patient demographic data on the glass slide label(s) corresponds with what's documented in the department's LIS. * Confirms that the barcode for each glass slide is scanned into the department's LIS using the correct tracking station. * Follows the department's standard operating procedures for assessing and resolving quality control issues; remains up to date with the department's practices and applies it accordingly. * Follows proper protocol to document and respond to quality control issues in a timely manner. * Maintains a neat work environment and completes quality control logs in a timely manner. * Ad hoc tasks as needed
* High School Diploma/GED. * Task and detail oriented, organized and able to multitask * Comforable in a lab around blood and specimans * Previous experience in a labratory environment as lab aide or accession assistant preferred * Mon-Fri, 4pm - 12am (evening shift) or 9pm-5am (overnight shift), with flexibility to rotate on weekends as needed
