Milton Hershey School (MHS) is currently seeking full-time Cooks for its growing campus. MHS serves more than 2000 Pre-K through 12th grade students from lower income. We have a unique opportunity in which you would cook healthy dishes, interact with a diverse population of adults and students, and assist with a variety of responsibilities to help keep the Food Service Department operating smoothly. Each day is different!

This service-orientated position provides the best possible menu components for the students and staff at the dining halls, residences, health center, catered events & special programs. It provides support to meet the food service program needs of the school such as preparing appealing and nutritious meals, fulfillment of menu order components, maintaining a food safe work environment (cleaning & sanitation) which will enhance the well-being of the students and staff. This position is under the direction of the Executive Chef and/or Coordinator of Food Production. This is a 12-month (year-round) position and it is part of the Bargaining Local Union 464.

Work Schedule: Monday Friday full-time flex shift (weekend shifts may be required as part of the flex schedule model).

Any combination of the shift times listed below on a weekly basis. A full-time schedule shall consist of forty hours of scheduled work with a minimum of two (2) days off:

6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m.

8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

11:30 a.m. 8:00 p.m. (required to work this shift every other week)

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Prior experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen environment & Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles.
  • Culinary/catering/cooking experience.
  • Valid NSF Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain upon hire within six months.
  • Valid PA Driver s License in good standing.
  • HACCP training.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and convert recipes.
  • Ability to operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to make independent judgments based on common sense.
  • Physically capable to lift and/or carry up to 50+ pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions; understand and carry out oral and written communication.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse group of adults and children.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS Staff are considered to be role models for MHS Students.
  • Candidates should be willing to actively engage with MHS Students.
