Milton Hershey School is currently seeking a full-time Grounds keeper I for its growing campus. The purpose of this position is to maintain the campus grounds, lawns, planting beds, shrubs, trees, and perform other duties as assigned. The successful candidate is required to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge by achieving a score of at least 70% on a professional examination and demonstrate journeyman level skill through successful completion of a practical exercise. (This applies to all applicants, both internal and external.) Bargaining Unit position with OPS Local-464. Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
> * Maintain campus lawn, including mowing, leaf removal, and storm damage, trimming trees and shrubs, watering, fertilizing, weeding, seeding, aerating and other duties as assigned.
> * Pruning, trimming and general tree and shrub care.
> * Perform snow and ice removal, including plowing, shoveling, loading, anti-skid spreading.
> * Prepare planting beds for annuals, perennials and bulbs.
> * Apply herbicides, fungicides, dormant oils and insecticides to campus plantings as directed by a licensed applicator.
> * Perform daily equipment maintenance in accordance with operational manual.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00 am- 3:30 pm. The full-time schedule consists of 40 hours with a minimum of two (2) days off. * Standard hours of operation may change due to seasonal and department needs. Bargaining union Local 464 position - pay rate is $18.96/hour.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Three years experience working in the grounds maintenance field.
Knowledge of large mowers, tractors, snow plows equipment, etc.
Valid PA Drivers License in good standing (CDL Preferred, Class B).
Training with pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals.
Candidate should be willing to actively engage with students.
Candidate should demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS staff are considered to be role models to MHS students.
