Overview

The Events department oversees the strategic development, planning and execution of numerous Major League Soccer & Soccer United Marketing events in the US and Canada each year. We manage MLS and SUM tent-pole events including the MLS All-Star Game, CONCACAF Gold Cup, MLS Cup, Campeones Cup, the Mexican National Team U.S. Tour and other Major League Soccer and enterprise events. We support cross-departmental initiatives including press announcements, department/executive meetings, competition events and strategic projects.

The Senior Director, Events is responsible for strategically directing multiple events per year, ensuring their overall success and value to the organization.

Responsibilities

* Project manage events internally & externally, coordinating with various organizational functions including but not limited to operations, security, hospitality, marketing, partnership marketing, broadcasters/media, and competition

* Develop staffing and external resource plans (contractors and production agencies) for all events

* Manage various RFPs for events

* Utilize the process and market relationships to maximize in-market exposure through civic organizations (CVB, Sports Commissions, etc.)

* Develop executional event plan and staffing plans for tent-pole events

* Ensure all departments are aligned on project timelines and deliverables

* Negotiate venue agreements and other event contracts, focusing on maximizing revenue and protecting the needs of our events

* Ensure each event delivers added value, both commercial and non-commercial, to local MLS Clubs, partners, and the enterprise as a whole

* Develop standard operating procedures for the department and for event data capture/management

Additional Responsibilities

* Maintain relationships with NFL, NBA, MLB and various other venue contacts in North America

* Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:

* Plan, monitor, and review performance;

* Coach and counsel employees;

* Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies

* Develop personal growth opportunities for employees

* Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree

* 10+ years of experience

Required Skills

* Vast knowledge of event management and production needs; able to both negotiate and manage production agencies, vendors and contractors

* Experience working with and managing production and creative agencies

* Analytical thinker, self-motivated, organized, flexible and a proven problem solver

* Strong contract negotiation and event management skills

* Knowledge of US Sports landscape and North American sporting venues

* Experience developing, managing event budgets and finances; fiscally responsible with success overseeing large budgets and costs in detail

* High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally

* Some physical labor related to the set-up and breakdown of events

* Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment

* Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

* Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

* Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail

* Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills

* Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Desired Skills

* Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)

* Knowledge of the sport of soccer
