Role Summary

This position will play an integral role in helping build and implement a sports science discipline for the MSG teams medical staff and its athletes. MSG sports teams include the NBA Knicks, NHL Rangers, AHL Wolf Pack and NBA G-League Westchester Knicks. Responsibilities will include playing a critical role in the development and oversight of a robust sports science program. The successful candidate will possess an advanced exercise science degree; demonstrate significant experience with integrating physiological data collection, interpretation and recommendations; be a critical thinker who has a strong grasp of current research, publications and technology. This role will be a key driver in making sure any and all data collection is done efficiently and consistently, monitored accurately and confidentially, and communicated as appropriate. Experience creating strategies for incorporating data-driven advances in sports science is a key function as well. This position will work with all levels of staff and management and must be a superior communicator that is also able to handle sensitive information confidentially.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

  • Oversee effective integration of physiological data collection, interpretation and visualization practices into MSG sports teams
  • Translate scientific data into practical and applied programming and strategies to help improve athletic performance and injury prevention
  • Coordinate daily reporting and systematically ensure that relevant physiological information is being received by appropriate staff members
  • Work closely with Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, Medical, Nutritional and external service staffs to collect, extrapolate on, and maintain integrity of data on a day-to-day basis
  • Integrate seamlessly into high functioning team of professionals
  • Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) required in related discipline (exercise physiology, human movement, kinetics, exercise science etc)
  • Additional certifications in the field of sports performance preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with elite athletes
  • Demonstrates high level of proficiently in integrating physiological data into elite team sport setting, inclusive of overseeing personnel and effective assimilation into daily athlete management practices
  • Demonstrates high level of experience with on-the-floor data collection via athlete monitoring technologies, such as heart rate monitors, GPS, and linear position transducers, required
  • Demonstrates high level of knowledge with an array of data collection, aggregation, and visualization tools is required
  • Demonstrate agility, flexibility, integrity, business ethics, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and principles while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
  • Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group
  • Must possess excellent leadership and communication skillsandmust be able to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to understand and successfully take charge of difficult organizational problems and to formulate/drive appropriate solutions
  • Education

    Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
