**Part Time Armed Detention Officer**
**Description**
**Akima Global Services (AGS), LLC, an Akima Company,** provides detention management and records management solutions. AGS is a small disadvantaged business and a participant in the Small Business Administrations 8(a) Business Development Program and is wholly owned by an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC). Due to AGS status as a SBA certified 8(a) Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), Federal customers can sole-source contracts of any dollar value to AGS allowing federal clients to put AGS expertise to work on critical projects quickly without sacrificing the quality or cost-effectiveness expected of a large, experienced firm. As one of several small companies operating in different federal markets, AGS receives support from its parent company, Akima, LLC for common administrative services. This structure allows AGS to operate as a small business especially in terms of autonomy, customer interaction, and decision making, while receiving support from an organization with more than 40 years of experience, including its people, tools, financial stability, and processes enabling AGS to focus on leveraging proven processes to deliver exceptional results.
The Detention Officer is responsible to ensure the safety and security of detainees in custody, acting in accordance with the highest ethical standards at all times, and ensuring a spirit of fairness and integrity in the on-going execution of their duties.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Performs duties related to the detention, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required by the contract
+ Supervise and control detainee behavior during the operation of the detention facility; or restrain by force if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints
+ Exercise appropriate judgment in handling of special needs situations or detainees
+ Communicate effectively and coherently with other staff or detainee with approved facility communication devices including the telephone system, intercom system, and portable radios; demonstrate effective communicative skills with detainee, public and staff
+ Perform searches of detainees, vehicles, mail items, objects capable of concealing contraband, buildings, indoor and outdoor areas which may involve feeling or detecting objects, walking, kneeling, bending or stooping for long periods of time
+ Escort detainees (hostile, aggressive, passive, etc.) using handcuffs and other approved restraints in accordance to policy and procedure
+ Maintain company equipment and uniforms in functional condition as prescribed for by company policy
+ Transport detainees securely using ICE approved restraints and vehicles to off-site location
+ Ensure that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery
+ Inspect, maintain, and care for authorized post related equipment
+ Attends to housing, feeding, and the physical well-being of detainees, on a variety of shifts 24 hours a day
+ Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility
+ Provides care, custody and control of detainees at all times
+ Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures
+ Guards detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings
+ Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures
+ Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies
+ Perform other duties as assigned
**Experience:**
One year of Military, Security, Law Enforcement, or Corrections experience demonstrating the following:
+ Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public
+ Must be willing to work shift hours to include, evening, nights, weekends and holidays
+ Must attend and pass defensive tactics training
+ Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and are able to compose written and oral reports
+ Ability to exercise good judgment: courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities
+ Ability to maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations
+ Ability to concisely and accurately prepare and write narratives of incidents and other written reports
+ Must be able to exercises judgment and use discretion in dealing with first response to any and all situations
+ Must have the ability to work with a diverse population of people, including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles; with a cross cultural perspective
+ Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling detainees by following required training, policy and procedure
+ Must maintain proficiency with any special equipment used for your position
+ Must maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information
+ Must possess a high degree of integrity, accountability
+ Must adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards at all times
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Speak, read, write, and understand English
+ **Have a MINIMUM of a Class C drivers license with** **passenger endorsement**
+ **Possess a New York State Armed Guard License**
+ **In lieu of an Armed Guard License having previous Law Enforcement Credentials may suffice**
+ Must maintain physical fitness standards and must be able to pass and maintain required physical testing requirements and standards which includes:
- Must be able to lift heavy object up to 50lbs frequently and up to 70lbs occasionally
- Must be able to push a wheel chair bound individual weighing up to 300 lbs and helping individual in and out of chair
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, twisting, reaching overhead and climb stairs, ladders and slopes periodically
+ Must be able to pass a medical examination and meet health requirements
+ Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time minimum 4 hours
+ Must be at least 21 years of age and a US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years
+ Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
+ Must have the ability to pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record) to obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance
+ Must be able to pass all pre-employment and random drug tests
+ Bilingual
+ Associate or Bachelor level degree in Criminal Justice or related field an asset
+ Must be able to pass a medical examination and meet health requirements
