SUMMARY: The CDO works closely with AtWork!s CEO, board and staff to foster a culture of philanthropy within AtWork! and assures that systems and procedures support that culture. Plans, coordinates and assures implementation of strategies to attract, inform, cultivate and sustain donors, volunteers and board members that support the organization to achieve mission and fund raising goals. The development and maintenance of appropriate systems includes but is not limited to volunteer and donor management, board recruitment, training and support; research and cultivation, gift processing and recognition. Serves as an ambassador to our external constituencies. Maintains accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Position Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development strategies are accomplished and goals are achieved in keeping with the organizations values, vision, and mission.
  • Create an annual development strategic plan that establishes a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to attract and retain donors and fundraising volunteers and achieve goals.
  • Actively engage with programs, leadership, and staff within AtWork! to seek new ideas for development activities and engage them in the philanthropy culture in a way that promotes success.
  • Based upon the strategic plan implement a dynamic individual fundraising process that includes the annual fund appeal, major gifts, grants, and events. Events are planned and coordinated with the Marketing Manager.
  • Recommends to the CEO, board and development committee measurements and accountabilities for the CEO, CDO, board members and fundraising volunteers and takes the lead on producing data to evaluate performance regularly.
  • Takes the lead in organizing and guiding the work of the CDO, Marketing Manager, and committee to design and deliver a sophisticated and profitable annual fundraising breakfast. Responsible for ensuring that corporate sponsorships meet goals and that the number of attendees meets expectations.
  • Prepare and analyze development reports for the CEO, Development Committee, and Board of Directors monthly and as requested; proactively identify and communicate mitigation plan for any aspect of fund development that is not tracking and/or projected to meet goals.
  • Attend board meetings, the board advance and other meetings and events as requested.
  • Manage the donor database and other data systems necessary to effectively manage the development program of AtWork!.
  • Track donor prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and all aspects of donor stewardship including gift acknowledgement and on-going relationship building.
  • Work cooperatively with Marketing Manager in Event Planning to ensure event success. Attend all appropriate events and actively engage with guests.
  • Be actively involved in the public, corporate and nonprofit communities. Membership in service clubs, chamber of commerce(s) and other groups is required. Actively seek to collaborate with these various organizations on hosting fundraising events or other mutually beneficial development activities.
  • Initiate a planned giving program strategy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Does not supervise other staff at this time. Coordinates work with Marketing Manager who is responsible for event planning and support. Chairs the Development Committee of the board. Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a positive and supportive fashion with staff, board and committee members.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Proven success in initiating, developing and enhancing relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of significant gift acquisition, including multi-year and capacity-building contributions.
  • Ability to work across diverse teams toward common goals.
  • Technology proficiency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree (BA/BS) in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Business, or other related field preferred, with 5or more years management level fundraising experience. Additional experience in marketing, branding, media relations, capitol campaign management, grant writing, and major donor cultivation preferred.
  • Post high school education, training, and/or learning in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Business or other related field required, with 2years management level fundraising experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Above average oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents, publications, reports and procedure manuals. Advanced writing and editing skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, to draw/interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to problem solve and pay close attention to detail. Ability to take initiative and make decisions based upon company purpose, mission, and values and in the best interest of employees. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently under pressure, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.

  • Valid Washington State Drivers License
  • Proof of Vehicle Liability Insurance
  • Good Driving Record
