The Department of Psychiatry at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with Penn State College of Medicine is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-eligible Associate Professor or Professor of Psychiatry, and Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry. The position requires an MD or DO with Board Certification in Psychiatry with added qualifications in addiction psychiatry. Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate clinical leadership in development of addiction programs. Success in clinical research, as demonstrated by a track record of current NIH supported projects peer-reviewed articles related to studies of alcohol, opioid, nicotine, cocaine and/or cannabis dependence will be preferred but not required. The Department has been funded in studies on the pharmacoeconomics of opioid dependence treatment, as well as in a multidisciplinary study of elements of protracted abstinence in a population of patients dependent upon opioid analgesics. The latter study includes a novel brain imaging modality, as well as subjective and objective indices of sleep and stress. In their various research activities on addictive disorders, faculty in the department work collaboratively with colleagues in the Department of Health Care Sciences in the area of nicotine dependence and health outcomes. Additional collaborations include colleagues at the main campus (including the NIDA - funded Methodology Center).
The Division Director would serve as the clinical anchor in plans to apply for a university designated Center of Excellence, an effort being charted by investigators in the Departments of Psychiatry, Pharmacology, and Neural and Behavioral Sciences.
Over the past five years, the department has established very fruitful research and educational collaboration with publicly and privately supported addiction treatment and prevention programs in Central Pennsylvania. With these resources committed to an expansion of this effort, and the collaborating academic departments at Penn State Health committed to further investment in research on addictive disorders, this is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned leader in the field.
