The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the administrative functions for the Phlebotomy Department. This includes supervising the daily activities of the phlebotomy staff, coordinating the hiring process, and developing and maintaining scheduling at various locations and ensuring proper staff coverage. This individual will also implement performance management (verbal/written disciplinary actions or performance improvement plans) and applicable policy interpretation. Additional duties include conducting staff meetings, completing special department projects and serves as a back-up for the Manager in their absence.

The Penn State Health phlebotomy department performs venous and capillary blood collections from inpatients and outpatients. The team also conducts testing on other laboratory specimens, interprets and enters physicians' lab orders into designated computer systems, and verifies patient and insurance information in various internal information systems. The department also provides phlebotomy training and shadowing experiences for nurses, PCAs, medical students, medical assistants, and other interested students.

Associate's degree plus 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

Supervisory, workflow, or coordination experience required


Must have strong computer and communication skills

Strong problem solving skills required


Organizational skills and project management skills preferred
