These positions are in Obesity, Metabolic and Muscle Diseases department within Therapeutic Focus Area located in Tarrytown, NY. There are 5 openings for Summer 2020. Each opening is described below:

Position 1:
The student would conduct research in understanding pathways related to control of metabolic rate and appetite. The project would likely build on previous research from the summer before.

Position 2:
This student will be responsible for the execution of in vitro biological experiments necessary to identify biased agonists for validated G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) of interest.

Position 3: This position will require a physical before starting
This student will have an opportunity to perform skeletal muscle biology research using in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo (rodent models) systems. The research will focus on the regulation of myofiber and muscle stem cell function, and how these cells can be therapeutically targeted to improve muscle function and regenerative capacity.

Position 4:
This student intern will participate to a research program characterizing the functions of novel drug targets, and perform in vitro experiments that include, but are not limited to, histological analysis of tissue samples, cell imaging, and molecular biological experiments.

Position 5: This position will require a physical before starting
This student will interrogate signaling pathways in muscle. He / she will culture human and mouse myoblasts, differentiate them into myotubes. He / She will treat them with various proteins (ligands) and examine the effect on signaling, gene expression and differentiation. Different methods such as western blotting, Elisas, QPCR and immunohistochemistry might be used to perform the tasks.

Position 1:

Students pursuing a biology degree are preferred

Some prior biology lab experience preferred

Position 2:

Must currently be pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's

Must be pursuing a degree Biology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, or related discipline

0 or more years of relevant lab research experience preferred

Strong aseptic cell culture skills

Experience with cell-based assays

Ability to communicate with transparency

Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Gathers and organizes information

Meets commitments on time

Follows directions; performs well-defined tasks

Effective time management skills

Ability to maintain integrity, honesty and respectful behavior at all times

Position 3:

Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program

Must be pursuing any major pertaining to biomedical sciences (e.g., biology, biochemistry, physiology, etc.)

Cellular and molecular biology skills such as cell culture, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, and/or qPCR are desired, but not required.

Position 4:

Must be pursuing a Bachelors

Must be pursuing a degree in Biology or Medicine

Basic life science lab experience. Experience in neuroscience lab is preferred.

Position 5:

Must be pursuing a Bachelors

Must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Premed

Experience in tissue culture and pipetting

Attention to details

General Intern Program Information:

Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD

Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid

Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community

Minimum GPA of 3.0

You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)

Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!

Housing stipend available for those students who meet mileage requirements
