  • General Summary:

    The Medical Assistant II performs routine clinical and administrative tasks to keep the practice of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. In addition to MA duties, workswith practicephysiciansandsupportstafftoensurepatient friendly andefficient operations. Dutiesinclude the preparation ofneeded information for patient visits andfollow-upneeds. The duties vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioners' specialty.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Pr o v ide s clinical support including, butnot limited to, the following:

    oTakes patients' medical history, information pertaining to the patients' visit to the doctor , and record vital signs of patients to help the doctor with diagnosis

    oProcessing medical insurance claims, medical billing and electronic claims, and incorporating correct coding procedures

    oRelaysinformationtopatientsregardingpreparationofdiagnostictestsandexaminations

    oArranges examining room instruments and equipment and keeps the examining rooms neat and clean

    2. Pr o v ide s administrative support including, butnot limited to, the following:

    oGreetspatientswhentheyentertheclinicandgatherstheirinformationuponarrivalbyhavingthem filloutformsandanswersroutineinquiries

    oSchedulespatientsappointments

    oEnters/verifies/updatesPatientDemographics

    oCollectsco-paysfrompatientsattimeofappointmentcheck-in

    oHandlespre-authorizations/certificationsasnecessary

    oRegistration, filing and maintenance of medical records and documents

    3.Otherrelatedresponsibilities:

    oRepresentstheclinicinaprofessionalmannerinperson,intelephoneconversations,andinwritten correspondence

    oRespectsandmaintainsprivacyanddignityofpatientsandassurespatientconfidentialityatalltimes

    oPerformsbasicclericalfunctionssuchasphotocopying,scanning,fax,sortsanddistributesmail

    oPrioritizeandorganizeworkload

    oMaintainsformsandofficesuppliesrequiredforfrontdeskactivities

    oAnyotherdutiesasassigned

    Educationand Experience:

    1.HighSchoolDiplomaorGEDrequired

    2.Graduate from an accredited medical assisting education program required

    3.Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA or NCCT required

    4.Minimum of two years of experience inamedical office setting required

    5.Knowledgeofmedicalterminology

    6.KnowledgeandproficiencywithMicrosoftWord, Outlook, and electronic medical recordsrequired

    Knowledge,Skills and Abilities:

    Strongoralandwrittencommunicationskillsareessential

    Vital signs, patient assessment

    Administration of medications (Oral, IM, Sub-q, Intradermal, IV)

    Attention to accuracy anddetail

    Ability to work independently

    Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of staff satisfaction

    Physical Demands:

    Individualsmustbeabletomeetestablishedspecific physicalrequirementsofthejobincludingsitting ata desk ormeeting table,reaching, lifting, pulling,bending,stooping,twisting,standingandwalking

    WorkingConditions:

    Normal medical officeenvironment

    Exposure to blood borne pathogens

    Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed
