Job Summary: Diesel Mechanic will repair company vehicles while adhering to safety laws and regulations through BIT inspections and DOT requirements. Will need to coordinate with various vendors for repairs and purchases and maintain parts inventory. Will make best value and safety decisions to continue to operate, repair or replace, and performs technical repairs and/or replacement. Will diagnose and repair problems in the areas of engine, component parts and various other vehicle items. Will consult with owner on whether a component can continue to operate or should be repaired/replaced, based on overall value and safety impact. Individually or in conjunction with another mechanic, performs tractor PMs including responsibility for resolving any equipment performance problems identified by the driver. May perform accident repairs on tractors or trailers including welding and complex component changes. Coordinate to assist in vehicle maintenance recordkeeping and tracking. Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Minimum 3 years experience on trucks and trailer repairs. May perform other general maintenance.
