The Reinsurance Data Analyst will function within the Reinsurance Operations Team. They will be responsible for the migration, manipulation, and maintenance of reinsurance data to ensure the business teams have information that will enable them to make sound decisions. They will be responsible for extracting data from various sources within the Starr Companies databases, analyzing that data and presenting that data to those who can make decisions about how reinsurance could be more effectively managed. The Data Analyst will work in collaboration with data architects, developers, and key stakeholders to design robust processes to extract, transform and load solutions into local databases (ETL).

The position will work closely with Project Managers and business units to determine data requirements and to ensure that all data conforms to the proper data standards and business needs. The Data Analyst will also be responsible for developing and testing new processes and procedures to improve efficiency of current tasks.

Many of the Starr integrations are with external vendors so candidate may interact with external parties in addition to working closely with other Starr IT teams and business stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities of the position:

* Perform data analysis


* Assist in determining data migration requirements


* Ensure data quality via reporting and analysis


* Perform required data manipulation to conform to business needs


* Perform data migration activities during project implementations


* Test newly created or modified data utilities to ensure proper operation


* Initiate, coordinate and participate in system optimization efforts


* Communicate technical issues effectively to \"non-technical\" personnel


* Take ownership of projects as assigned


* Provide timely response to support requests



Business Analysis and Data Management

* Work closely with business partners to identify and write technical specifications for the extraction of data.


* Quickly understand the business issues and data challenges of the Starr organization and propose solutions.


* Use SQL to query database for testing and analysis.


* Implement effective mapping of multiple source databases to centralized SQL Server target system(s) intended to supply business intelligence and general reporting systems.


* Identify and analyze data discrepancies and data quality issues.


* Ability to see downstream implications resulting from change in scope and/or requirements.


* Ensure data standards are reused and enforced across all data-driven initiatives.


* Maintain system protocols by writing and updating procedures.


* Write clear, concise and complete analyses

Testing and Project Coordination


* Lead testing efforts when new reports and inquiries are developed


* Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner


* Monitor project progress by tracking activity; resolving problems


* Apply lessons learned to each succeeding project

Effective Communication and Team Collaboration


* Translate technical activities and objectives in a manner appropriate for various audiences and stakeholders during 1-on-1 interactions, meetings and/or conference calls.


* Identify and escalate issues appropriately and provide timely progress updates.


* Review designs by other team members and give constructive feedback in meetings or written form when required.



Skills/Experience Required:

* Bachelor's Degree preferably in business-related field of study.


* Demonstrable analytical skills


* 2-5 years' experience as a data-oriented business analyst or similar position.


* 2-5 years' hands-on experience with SQL


* Working knowledge and experience with reinsurance (i.e., Facultative, XOL, Q/S, etc.).


* Insurance and Reinsurance Data Experience STRONGLY PREFERRED


* Experience in ETL methods and technologies


* Proficiency in Microsoft Office including: Word, Excel & PowerPoint; Excel skills must be very strong


* Experience with Tableau, Cognos, or other presentation tools preferred
