OverviewWithin the Compliance Operations Department, the Account Control Group (ACG) is responsible for account opening and onboarding, periodic reviews, and account opening static data inputs. This role is primarily responsible for new customer onboarding through Know Your Customer (KYC) process, account opening and customer review. Working with the broader Account Control team, this role will be responsible for routine operational day-to-day actions focused on defined procedures, analyses and report preparation. This position also focuses on execution and documents processes and rationales and provides first level of review before escalated to management.ResponsibilitiesEnsures operational efficiencies and customer data integrity in accordance with internal policies and procedures of SMBC and Head Office and compliance with AML/BSA/OFAC regulations.Performs customer on boarding and performs first level review on due diligence adverse news research of customers and affiliated parties. Records rationale and decision-making on exceptions escalated to management.Performs updates made to existing customer records including documentation review.Ensures adherence to the SMBC KYC (Know Your Customer) Program; supports industry-mandated changes or system changes by participating in the change process; recommends changes through compliance with bank policies.Ensures that CIP information and mandatory DD/EDD information is collected prior to account opening;Collects from the RM and reviewing, for adequacy, accuracy and quality, all required KYC information and documentation within prescribed time frame.Confirms that verification documents are obtained by the RM and work performed by ACG are completed within a prescribed time frame.Conducts background checks (i.e., OFAC, politically exposed persons, 311 and adverse information checks)Maintains evidence of search results in the KYC system and escalating to the BSA Officer any confirmed or suspected name matches associated with material negative information.Ensures business continuity under all conditions, sometimes adverse, with strict adherence to established guidelines and deadlines.Activities of the ACG team are governed by SMBCs Policies and Procedures.Qualifications2 to 4 years of specialized experience in financial services requiredCertified Anti Money Laundering Specialist certification preferredExperience in back office operations preferredFunctional level knowledge of legal aspects and record keeping requirements of banking regulations including AML, Bank Secrecy Act, Foreign Asset ControlFunctional level knowledge of KYC process and regulationsFamiliarity with banking policies, statutory and compliance regulationsFunctional knowledge of market practices related to compliance operationsAbility to execute in a high pressure environmentGood analytical skills; detail oriented with a sense of urgency and accountabilityGood written and verbal communication skillsBA / BS (or equivalent experience) required
