Job Summary. Director of Product Development is directly responsible for managing a product line(s) within a division or product category; including new product development and launch, customer/user research, business case development, competitive intelligence, cross-functional team management and global marketing launches. She/ He will develop strong relationships with brands and manufacturers and continue building upon those.. Responsibilities. Manage all phases of new formula development, reformulations, and new product innovation from concept to finished good for all CBD products.. Manage product briefs to finalize concepts, research and define the products' feasibility and development parameters.. Define and oversee the analytical test development and criteria required for all products. Create and manage all product testing and stability plans.. Review all batch submissions as needed including on-site approvals whenever necessary.. Responsible for lab briefs and communication with labs/chemists.. Work with Quality Manager to ensure compliance with regulations.. Develop strong working relationships with external R&D teams to meet and/or exceed project timelines.. Ensure final product meets efficacy, cost, sensory, and aesthetic requirements set by Marketing team in accordance with the brand's strategy and goals.. Ensure packaging meets product compatibility, claims, ingredient, and regulatory and safety requirements.. Partner with Marketing and Sales to develop best-in-class products by identifying trends and current and emerging competitors.. Oversee project management by leading cross-functional teams and ensuring accountability. Assess projects from a broad vantage point and understanding decision implications beyond R&D.. Monitor and maintain on-time delivery of critical project milestones, lead internal communication with cross-functional partners as it relates to product briefs, formula evaluation and other deliverables.. Partner with creative design team and assist with approval process for primary and secondary components.. Review copy for sales/marketing collateral and training materials for storytelling, marketing, and education needs.. Drive and execute product improvements by collaborating with Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales Teams.. Identify future innovation opportunities in terms of ingredients, formulation and product formats.. Develop scalable development plans for the R&D organization to grow and mature with the growth of the business.. Travel as necessary to represent team at industry conferences, tradeshows, supervise formula development, pilot and/or production runs, work onsite at external R&D facilities as needed to meet project approval milestones.. Requirements. Bachelor's degree with minimum of 5+ years of product development experience in the CPG, hard goods or beauty industry.. Experience and strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers.. Minimum of 3 years of experience with formulation, packaging and product marketing.. Minimum of 3 years of experience in multi-line, multi-product manufacturing business with numerous channels of distribution.. Minimum of 3 years of experience in hands-on marketing/product analysis.. Must have product / project management experience.. Must have a collaborative working and communication style and ability to work with diverse work group from all levels of organization.. Requires proven ability to collect and analyze market and product data.. Strong presentation skills and ability to formulate compelling data and information to cross-functional areas of the company to support recommendations for product lines, pricing, marketing strategy, etc.. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with expert level in Microsoft Excel.. Experience with new product planning and development processes.. Excellent organizational and time management skills.. Comfortable demonstrating software solutions.. Creative thinker with a vision.. Attention to details.. Occasional travel by car or plane may be required to attend events or conduct market research.
