We are currently hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager who will have the opportunity to experience a range of activities, which vary week to week and day to day. In this management role you'll work closely with the Teradyne Continuing Engineering Group and many other groups within the company. You will be accountable for the day-to-day management and direction of the Mechanical Engineering staff supporting the installed base of existing Semiconductor Test ATE platforms. The staff (located in North Reading MA, Heredia Costa Rica, Suzhou China, Penang, Malaysia) TOP 20 Hardware Issues Clearquest Hardware defect, Jira Hardware defect, and feature request database Emergency Response Team (Safety) items The successful candidate must also be able to anticipate, understand, and resolve the problems that occur when working with products that are composed of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems. Knowledge and experience must permit the ability to lead and judge the appropriateness of design solutions developed by staff, peers, and core designers. The candidate will have a solid mechanical engineering and project management background and will work as an individual contributor on projects when required.
Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education RequiredRequires BS Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree strongly preferred) with 6+ years experience Must have experience with the management of a design and development group, with minimum group size of at least 6 direct reports. Must be able to work with limited supervision, be a self-starter, and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously Must be task oriented, goal driven, and be willing to drive issues to closure Demonstrated technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills Must be able to communicate and listen to the needs of staff, to represent the staff with higher levels of management, and to work effectively with the rest of the Engineering Group. Must have experience with sheet metal, machine, and plastics design and manufacturing processes Solid engineering and analytical skills and a working knowledge of geometric tolerancing A complete understanding of the development process of electro-mechanical products is required Project management skills - Proven ability to establish and manage design & development processes that reliably meet aggressive project and/or customer schedule demands Must be capable of preparing schedules, resource requirements and risk mitigation plans for programs being driven from within Continuing Engineering Must have a working knowledge of mechanical CAD systems (preferably SolidWorks and PRO/E) Travel to customer sites or manufacturers located anywhere in the world to investigate and solve engineering issues (5% to 10%) Accountable for department budgets, personnel administration, project staffing, prioritizing, salary reviews, training, individual career development, and recruitment Provide technical guidance, oversight, support and leadership to design staff Strong organizational and leadership skills Strong written and verbal communication skills a must Ability to define, direct, and participate in the design verification testing of design solutions. Demonstrated ability to support Operations and Product Support groups with technical assistance to resolve production and field problems Proven ability to manage third party design resources from suppliers or contract engineering services is highly desired Must be a strong self starter with regards to understanding TER Processes Ability to interface effectively with other Teradyne organizations and customers. Minimum 5 years experience in a design related role and at least 5 years of engineering management experience Desired: Working knowledge of fluid flow and structural analysis software tools is a plus SmarTeam and Teamcenter experience is highly desired Ability to share Lessons Learned resulting from closed issues with Core development teams Support the evaluation and selection of new vendors. Provide vendors with recommendations for improvement in their processes and technologies. Working knowledge of Compliance/Regulatory design requirements#LI-MHTER
