We currently have an opening in our Clarksburg, MD office for a Business Development Director. This position designs, leads and implements the strategic business capture plan for the Domestic DoD business initiatives under Thales Defense and Security, Inc. (TDSI). This position reports to the Vice President of Communications Systems.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the performance of the Domestic DoD, Business Development team.
* Develop, qualify, and lead capture and pursuits of large government tactical communications programs ($10M+).
* Proactively interfaces with customers and partners to identify, qualify and capture new business opportunities.
* Identifies, evaluates and pursues partnerships and alliances leading to new business.
* Leads market analysis, monitors competitive intelligence and identifies customer needs within their respective business area.
* Generate capture plans for strategically or financially significant opportunities.
* Direct the updates to and review the opportunity forecast for their respective business areas on a regular basis.
* Leads in the preparation of internal pursuit reviews and external proposals to include competitive assessments, customer hot buttons and win themes, price-to-win strategies, etc.
* Market analysis, development of the marketing communications strategy.
* Oversees Tradeshows/customer visit coordination and execution.
* Interface with DOD program offices and/or Military Operations leadership to understand, shape and influence future requirements.
* Lead multi-discipline teams in the pursuit of new business opportunities.
* Effect market penetration and growth with minimal supervision.

* Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company policies, procedures, practices and guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's operating policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance appraisals, rewarding and providing for employee discipline when required; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Active mentoring and development of staff is critical element of the supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
* US Citizenship.
* Eligible to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance immediately upon hire.
* The Director will have experience and knowledge in communications systems and their integration into C4ISR networks
* 10 + years of experience in each of the following areas: DoD Business Development, Tactical Comms, Management and Strategy, and operational management.
* The successful candidate will have at least 5 years military tactical operational experience.
* In depth knowledge of US Army and SOCOM market spaces required, additional experience within Intelligence programs desired.
* Familiarity with MANET networks, radio waveform technology/market trends desired.
* Ability to lead team members and work in a team environment interacting with employees in all departments and functions.
* Ability to foster team work across different functional areas and with other Thales entities
* Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
* Excellent organizational skills and work ethic.
* Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and sales tracking systems required.
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or equivalent field.
* Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
