The New School is seeking an experienced Director of Employee Relations to provide leadership in ensuring best practices on a wide range of employee relations issues including compliance with policies and procedures, providing advice and guidance on complex and challenging matters, and conducting investigations and preparing reports. The incumbent serves as a trusted resource and strategic partner to employees, supervisors, managers, and academic and administrative leaders in creating an environment premised on trust and integrity, where all employees can be productive and successful in achieving their professional and career goals, and are treated fairly and respectfully. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional verbal and written interpersonal skills, excellent diplomacy and judgment, high integrity, and the ability to adapt to changing needs of a dynamic, complex and fast paced environment. ? Provide advice to managers and employees on challenging employee relations issues; advise on the application and interpretation of university policies and procedures ? Lead investigations into alleged violations of university policies; provide advice to academic and administrative units on addressing the outcome of such investigations ? Anticipate legal issues associated with recruitment, performance, and conduct matters; work closely with the Office of General Counsel on discrimination and harassment charges ? Initiate, recommend, and implement best practices in all areas of employee relations ? Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures ? Draft and update employee relations policy and procedures ? Maintain primary responsibility for managing a large and complex caseload ? Analyze and evaluate data on retention and related issues, providing recommendations and counseling to management ? Manage exit interview process to ensure pertinent data is evaluated, investigated, and utilized in advancing the universitys interest in becoming an employer of choice ? Develop and curate materials for training programs; conduct training for management and executive leadership; collaborate with talent acquisition unit to advance diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives via training and other means Minimum Qualifications: ? Undergraduate or graduate degree in human resources management, public/business administration, or related field; ? 5+ years of experience drafting, interpreting and applying human resources policies and procedures ? Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to affirmative action and equal employment ? Relevant training and/or certification ? Significant experience conducting internal investigations and drafting investigative reports, position statements and related communications ? Excellent writing ability, communications and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in Employee Relations in an academic environment - Law degree from ABA-accredited law school preferred
