USG Oakfield Plant

The USG Oakfield Plant is located in Western New York, approximately 45 minutes East of Buffalo. The plant is one of the original USG sites, and is rich in community history. The plant produces paper for the manufacture of wallboard which involves a highly complex and sophisticated process. Position Description:

The Technician role directs activities associated with the design, specification, installation, start-up, programming, and troubleshooting of all plant process control equipment including the Metso / Valmet DCS system.

Perform all pneumatic/electronic instrumentation maintenance work including installation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting without direct supervision.

Provide documentation and lead implementation of equipment startups and ongoing technical support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming in an industrial automation environment

This position is typically 40 hrs/week M-F, with occasional mandatory overtime, and after-hours support.


Must have a basic understanding of electricity and capableof being trained up to 600 volts

Must be capable of using a voltage meter, ohm meter, andother testing devices

Must maintain continuous learning of technicaldevelopments in the paper industry to recommend process improvementopportunities

Demonstrated knowledge with the engineering, programming,and implementation of industrial control systems

Skills to troubleshoot equipment issues as related to thecontrols/programming aspects of the equipment

Demonstrated working knowledge of control systemscomponents, ladder logic programming, HMI programming and their applications

Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls designas well as PLC/HMI preferred experience (Allen-Bradley RSLogix (500 &5000), Workshop, TI-Soft, Siemens S7, and WonderWare)

Responsible for the selection, recommendation,installation, and training of new process control technologies; and theinvestigation of new developments in the field for possible implementation

Understanding of digital drive systems, PLC, and ProcessControllers, sensors, actuators, power supplies, and wiring devices

Responsible to conduct yourself in a manner consistentwith company values, code of conduct, policies and other standards

Demonstrate the ability to maintain a safe workenvironment, conduct self in a professional manner consistent with companyvalues, codes of conduct, policies and other standards at all times.

Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Projectand AutoCAD

Candidate needs to demonstrate strong verbal and writtencommunication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work in adiverse workforce environment

Participate in all plant programs and initiatives asassigned

Capable of performing all Technician 2 duties or any dutyas assigned by


Must work closely with the Plant Electrical, Reliabilityand Production Departments to provide continuous improvement and project support.
